Recap
On May 9th, athletes from across the Midwest descended on Des Moines with one goal in mind — earn an invite to The Midlands on September 12th.
On the Future Stars mats, Akagi Jiu Jitsu dominated the team standings with 8 champions and 21 total medalists, claiming the Kids Team Title in convincing fashion. On the Sub Spectrum side, Myriad MMA took the Adult Team Title with 23 total wins and 3 champions. But the performance of the day, and perhaps the season, came from 18-year-old Mason Stritzel, who went 9-0 with 8 submissions to claim the Advanced Absolute, -175 lbs, and -210 lbs divisions in a display that left little doubt about his place among the region's elite.
Three events down. Only one event remains. August 1st is the final opportunity to make a case for The Midlands and if May 9th proved anything, it's that this field is not short on competitors ready to seize it.
